Excellent place, the Pipe & Glass inn. The atmosphere is brilliant, the bar is cosy and friendly and the choice of beers is more than enough. The staff were superb, very friendly and helpful. We both had ham hock and guinea fowl ballotine with a scampi fritter, pease pudding and English pea shoots. What an excellent balance of textures and flavours. It's no wonder this place has a Michelin Star. I'll certainly be back next time I'm "up North".

Review of The Smugglers Den Inn - Newquay - Cornwall written 24 Sep 2012

We were told to go and try by some friends and I'm so glad we did the food was fabulous and well worth the (reasonable) prices, and the service was also excellent. Very pretty pub. Lovely garden and patios with children's play area. The staff were cheerful and friendly and the atmosphere was relaxed. The Smuggler's Den really is lovely - set a bit off the beaten track but picture postcard picture perfect thatched roof, hanging baskets etc. And the scenery is spectacular. Highly recommended.

Difficult to understand how this place keeps going. First of all it's right at the end of a long cul de sac so only people going specifically to see the (stunning) view ever get to visit the 'restaurant'. But this cafe abuses the privilege of calling itself a restaurant. The staff are moody, the food is only just 'adequate' and the bill is way beyond my comprehension (and my pocket). Stay away and save your money

Review of The Sparrowhawk - Burnley - Lancashire written 12 Mar 2012

This isn't the first time I've eaten at the Sparrowhawk and it won't be my last. This last visit was for Sunday lunch with all the usual excellent choices like black pudding fritters, local sausages, Lancashire cheese rarebit, not to mention all the differnt Sunday roasts.

The staff are always polite and helpful and, of course, it's set in the middle of beautiful Lancashire countryside. We need more eating places like The Sparrowhark to promote good British cuisine.
