Review of The Feathers Hotel - Ludlow - Shropshire written 30 Sep 2012

We stayed and ate at The Feathers for three days, and it was a wonderful experience. The food was sensational - beautifully cooked with professional unobtrusive service. Breakfast was buffet style for fruit, cereals and juices with waiter service for the cooked-to-order breakfasts. Again, food and service were very good and they always got the orders right (which is worth something nowadays!). And if your taste buds prefer something a little less fancy, the bar menu was also very good with a mouth-watering selection.

Review of The Portland Arms - Cambridge - Cambridgeshire written 9 Sep 2012

What we got with the room was exactly what we were looking for, modern styling, clean bathrooms, comfortable beds, a television with freeview, fast internet connection via wi-fi and a nice pub downstairs to hang out in.

We even got to have the beer garden to ourselves for a drink with one of the barmen after closing.

If you are looking for great value for money, to be near the river, close to amenities in a nice hotel above a bar/music venue then this is the place for you.

We timed our stay badly because the restaurant was closed the first night we were there, but we were directed to a very good Bangladeshi restaurant just round the corner!

The restaurant at Hickman Hill, on the other hand, is way beyond 'very good' - it is truly excellent. Everything is sourced locally and presented in traditional British manner and it's a real pleasure to eat there. The chef clearly knows what he is up to, and is comfortable with good quality ingredients. Highly reccommended.

Review of Harry's Hotel - Aberystwyth - Ceredigion written 5 Mar 2012

We were very pleasantly surprised at Harry's Hotel. Our room was spacious, clean and recently refurbished. Okay, we had to go through a rabbit warren of corridors and the sloping floors do cause gaps in the doorways but that's all part of the charm of the place!

The cooked breakfast was excellent and the staff were polite and helpful. We also ate in the Bistro (and I can thoroughly recommend the home made Baileys chocolate mousse served in a Guinness glass!)

The emphasis in the bar is on craic, where it seems that both Irish and Welsh themes combine. But it makes for a great entertainment venue. I would definitely stay here again, no hesitation. It's friendly, lively, good food, good bar and good value.
