About Fox & Hounds
Situated in the conservation area of Barnston on the Wirral Peninsula, The Fox and Hounds has all the charm and characteristics of a traditional village inn. Its cosy and welcoming atmosphere has maintained its popularity since its doors opened over ten decades ago. The pub’s bars are ideal for relaxing and enjoying a quiet drink or a leisurely meal.
The present pub was built about 1911 on the site of an Ale House & Barn. A lot of the original character was retained when the downstairs living accommodation was converted into drinking space in 1984. The Lounge Bar is ideal for a quiet drink and makes an ideal dining area at lunchtimes or evenings.
The Old Bar or “Snug” with its open fire in the winter months is the original bar & displays various collections of bric-a-brac. The Snug has also kept its original characteristics with its original wood block floor, oak fire surround and fixtures and fittings giving a warm and welcoming feel to the room.
The general decor of this pub is true to its origins, featuring an assortment of memorabilia collected over its years. Take a look around next time you are in and enjoy the traditional features that you don’t see very often anymore. Most of the Edwardian building's character has been preserved to keep the original charm and feel of the inn.
